Tips for losing chest fat in men

grasa pectorales hombres

Excess chest volume is a source of self-consciousness for many men, who experience frustration at the impossibility of eliminating this “female-like” breast appearance, even when following a healthy diet and exercise routine.
Keep reading if you want to know how to eliminate chest fat and the possible causes of increased male breast volume.

What is chest fat?

First of all, it is important to clarify that there are three scenarios that cause excessive volume in the male pectoral area. Although they have different origins, the aesthetic result is the same: a chest that is too large with a feminine appearance, not in line with male aesthetics.
This is why both cases are often confused with gynecomastia, but they are different problems with different solutions.

Excess fat

Excess chest fat, or adipomastia, is the increase of adipose tissue (fat) in the pectoral region, resulting in increased breast volume. This is what we know as “false gynecomastia” and accounts for 70% of patient consultations regarding excess male chest volume.
The main cause is excess weight or obesity, which leads to a buildup of localized fat in the pectoral area. As we will see in detail in this post, the solution is a simple liposuction.

Excess mammary gland: Gynecomastia

Hormonal changes in men during puberty can increase the size of the mammary gland—the breast bud. This is what constitutes true gynecomastia: a primary gynecomastia that may reduce spontaneously or may require, over time, the removal of this glandular tissue.
Throughout life, beyond puberty, there are other factors that can enlarge the gland in men, the main ones being:

  1. Certain medications
  2. Anabolic steroids, which can increase hormone levels and, consequently, glandular growth.

Excess of both fat and mammary gland

There are cases where the cause is mixed: there is an increase in the gland and an increase in adipose tissue, which may require both techniques:

  1. Gynecomastia surgery, where we extract the excess breast tissue.
  2. Liposuction to reduce the fatty tissue.

Why does it appear in men?

The term gynecomastia refers only to men, as women have glandular tissue that develops spontaneously. Simply by being female, hormones target the female glandular tissue, causing the mammary gland to develop.

Tips to eliminate male chest fat

Chest exercises

Any exercise that helps reduce overall body fat can be useful, but sometimes it is difficult to combat such localized fat.
There are men who, despite intensive dieting and exercise, cannot eliminate fat from the pectoral area. When addressing these specific fat accumulations, techniques like liposuction come into play.

Liposuction

To remove fat in the pectorals—false gynecomastia—we use liposuction. This is an intervention that lasts about thirty minutes and is performed under general anesthesia.
The fat is removed through a minimal incision (approximately three millimeters) in the armpit area, avoiding future visible scars. In about four or five days, the patient can return to their daily routine, except for sports and heavy physical exertion, for which they must wait one month. It is also advisable to use a chest compression garment during the first few days.

Gynecomastia treatment

Gynecomastia surgery is a straightforward procedure that usually lasts between one and one and a half hours. We make a small incision around the areola and, through this, extract approximately 90% of the mammary gland. The remaining 10% is the primary breast tissue behind the areola, which must be maintained to prevent vascular damage to the blood supply and subsequent necrosis, as well as aesthetic depressions.
Gynecomastia surgery is frequently combined with a small liposuction of the excess fat to perfect the final result.

Recovery is fast and painless, although it is necessary to wear a compression garment on the pectoral region to avoid seromas and fluid buildup, ensuring the best possible recovery.
In a maximum of two weeks, the patient can return to their usual routine, again with the exception of sports and lifting heavy weights.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the surgical technique that allows for the correction of male breast alterations, which sometimes reach a size larger than usual.

Liposuction

By suctioning excess fat, the treated area is molded, resulting in an improvement of the figure and contour.

Hair Micrograft

Hair surgery consists of implanting follicular units in the area where hair has been lost, creating new hair with a natural and permanent result.
