Goals of double chin treatment

There are four main goals when performing a double chin treatment:

  1. Remove excess fat. Whether there is a significant amount or only a small accumulation.
  2. Refine facial features. Defining the jawline to achieve a more triangular facial profile.
  3. Reduce sagging skin. Using minimally invasive techniques that leave minimal, virtually invisible scars.
  4. Tighten the skin. Helping it adapt naturally to the new contours of the neck.

Let’s take a closer look at how each of these goals can be achieved using innovative double chin treatments.

How can new technologies help eliminate a double chin?

The main concerns patients have about double chin removal relate to scarring after surgery and the effectiveness of the treatments.

At Clínica Planas, our specialists use advanced technologies to perform these aesthetic procedures. We explain each treatment in detail during the patient’s initial consultation.

First stage

The first step in the surgical process for double chin treatment involves treating the neck through very small incisions made behind the ears, specifically within the folds of the earlobes, as well as another small incision in the crease beneath the chin.

What does this achieve? The answer is simple: it allows the scars to remain concealed, addressing one of the patient’s main concerns.

The next step uses these approximately 3 mm incisions to introduce a solution containing anaesthetic and adrenaline to minimise bleeding.

Second stage

At this stage of double chin treatment, BodyTite is applied. This technology uses heat to coagulate fat while simultaneously heating the skin.

As the temperature increases, the fat contracts, regardless of the amount present. In patients with a significant accumulation of fat, the excess is removed, while in those with smaller amounts, the fat is simply contracted.

Meanwhile, the controlled application of heat causes the skin to contract, tighten and adhere more closely to the underlying tissues, allowing it to adapt naturally to the new contours of the neck.

It is important to highlight that our protocol allows fat to be removed using a gentle technique while achieving greater skin tightening by combining BodyTite and Morpheus technologies.

Morpheus is also a radiofrequency-based technique, but unlike BodyTite, which works internally, Morpheus is applied externally.

With BodyTite treatment, radiofrequency energy is delivered internally, heating the tissues to coagulate fat in a controlled manner. Built-in temperature sensors allow the surgeon to monitor the heat throughout the procedure and minimise the risk of thermal injury.

The additional use of Morpheus helps stimulate collagen production from the time of surgery, taking advantage of the anaesthesia already administered to the patient.

Third stage

Once the surgical procedure is complete, moisturising and soothing creams are applied to the treated areas to minimise any discomfort or itching the patient may experience.

A compression garment is also fitted around the neck and part of the face, which the patient must wear for the month following double chin treatment.

During the first week, the garment must be worn continuously, 24 hours a day. After seven days, it only needs to be worn while at home, allowing the patient to take breaks throughout the day.

Final stage

The treatment protocol also includes two or three lymphatic drainage massage sessions approximately one month after surgery, followed by one Morpheus session at our clinic around six weeks after the procedure.

Important information

Although combining these techniques involves slightly greater risks, the results can be considerably more noticeable and achieved in a shorter period than with other treatments.

In fact, the effects of the treatment are visible from the outset, immediately after surgery, although some swelling will still be present.

After two to three weeks, patients can begin to notice further improvements. By the end of the first month, the benefits become more apparent, with final results generally achieved after three months, although follow-up continues for up to one year.

Combining double chin liposuction with BodyTite and Morpheus involves a surgical procedure performed under anaesthesia and sedation that takes less than one hour. Patients can return home on the same day as their treatment.
