Lip lift Introduction
Over time and due to the aging process, the gap between the nose (specifically the columella and nostrils) and the upper lip commonly widens. This makes this lip appear increasingly thin and sometimes even hides part of the upper dental structure.
A narrow distance between the lip and nose (philtrum) is a sign of youth, while a wider distance signifies old age.
The lip lift rejuvenates the face by improving the appearance of the upper lip:
- Aged lip
- Thinned lip
- Elongated lip
This treatment may also be indicated in young patients who, due to their facial genetics, already have thin or elongated lips.
There is no exact distance to define when a lip is correct or not. Everything is proportional in relation to the facial thirds.

What does a lip lift entail?
A lip lift is simply a lifting of the upper lip.
This is a minor surgical procedure, performed under local anaesthetic, in which the orbicularis muscle is suspended so that it remains elevated. On some occasions, we also remove excess skin.
The preparation for this technique consists of taking various measurements on the Cupid's bow in the nasolabial fold.
The objective is for the lines projected from the points of the nostrils to the upper lip to be symmetrical and correlated from the corner of the mouth to the midpoint. All this without exceeding the limits of a range that is naturally balanced.
This procedure can be combined with what is known as a Corner Lip Lift, which treats the corner of the mouth when it droops due to ageing and gravity.
When is a lip lift recommended?
A lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the height of the upper lip when it is inverted rather than everted.
1. This surgery does not improve wrinkles.
2. It is not surgery for barcodes.
3. It is a surgery for lengthening.
When the lip is very elongated, the upper lip is lost. It is a lip that appears elongated and flattened, with hardly any vermilion showing. Furthermore, the teeth are barely visible when smiling.
This is usually caused by ageing, but there are cases of young patients who have this condition and are suitable candidates for a lip lift.
Advantages of lip lifting
Lip lifting achieves:
- Enhanced lip definition
- A more natural-looking smile
- And a rejuvenated face
The primary benefits of this technique include:
Minimally invasive surgery
This is an outpatient procedure performed under local anaesthesia. The patient goes home half an hour later.
Painless postoperative stage
Immediate results
Lip lift preoperative stage
The lip lift procedure requires no specific preoperative care beyond what is customary for any surgical procedure: show up make-up free on the day of your operation and refrain from smoking for a fortnight before.
What happens if I have lip fillers?
The patient will need to be assessed individually. There are situations in which it will be necessary to combine other procedures to reduce the volume of these fillings.
If there is too much filler at the time of the procedure, the lip will look much more accentuated and the final result will not be correct.
Lip lift postoperative stage
The postoperative period for this procedure is virtually painless. The patient can resume their normal routine the following day, bearing in mind that they will have stitches in the area. Physical exercise is contraindicated for one month.
One week after the procedure, the first stitches are removed. The rest are removed after approximately twelve days.
In addition to following the medical team's instructions, it is essential to avoid smoking during the postoperative period, as smoke particularly affects this area of the face.
