What does a hair transplant involve?

What hair graft techniques exist?

For hair grafts, at Clínica Planas we use FUE Sapphire, an innovative, up-to-date technique in which hair is extracted one strand at a time and then grafted one by one, leaving a scar that is imperceptible to the eye.

The FUE Sapphire technique follows 3 phases for hair grafts:

1.Extraction. Hair is extracted from the donor areas, which are normally the sides and back of the head.
2.Sapphire incision.
3.Implantation. The hair extracted from the donor area is implanted into the recipient area, with local anesthesia administered.

From what age can I get a hair transplant?

The first signs of baldness begin at around age 20 or 21, but what matters for getting a hair transplant isn’t age, but the degree of hair loss or the degree of baldness.

At Clínica Planas, we treat all degrees of baldness, but we also treat secondary baldness, which can be caused by burns, scars, post-chemotherapy treatments, or in areas where hair growth is desired again, such as eyebrows, beard, or pubic area.

Is it a painful technique?

Hair grafts are not painful, since local anesthesia is administered and is very well tolerated. Even after the hair transplant, the person who has had the hair grafts done will not experience discomfort and, little by little, will be able to resume normal life from the third or fourth day after surgery.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of sessions needed for hair grafts depends on each individual. The influencing factors are the degree of baldness and the donor area, that is, the area from which the hair is extracted. Taking this into account, the number will vary between 1 or 2 sessions.

Does a hair graft leave scars?

The procedures carried out in a hair transplant produce very natural results, and the scars left by hair grafts are millimetric, and therefore unnoticeable to the eye.

How many times can I get a hair graft?

Hair grafts are permanent, so once you’ve had a hair transplant, there will be no problem doing more hair grafts in other areas where there is significant hair loss. In addition, it is recommended that people who get hair grafts also treat the hair they still have — that is, the hair that hasn’t been transplanted but tends to fall out. To treat this hair, a medical evaluation is needed to determine what type of oral treatment or mesotherapy is recommended in each case.

How long does a hair implant procedure take?

The length of the surgery for hair grafts depends on the person’s degree of baldness and the size of the area to be implanted, but it normally ranges from about 6 to 8 hours.It’s an outpatient surgery performed under local anesthesia, making it a minimally invasive procedure with low surgical risk, and if the hair implant is done in the morning, the patient can be home that same afternoon.
