The loss of strength in the chest muscles is a very common issue among women, which is why many seek treatments and solutions to regain good muscle tone. Do you want to strengthen your chest? Keep reading—we’ll share some techniques and exercises to help you achieve it.
The importance of a strong chest
Having well-trained chest muscles before a breast procedure helps provide better coverage for the implant, especially in the case of slim women with little natural breast volume who wish to increase their breast size.
In the past, implants were usually placed beneath the muscle, particularly when the woman had little breast tissue. In recent years, however, the techniques used have shifted toward placing the implant more superficially rather than under the pectoral muscle. This change aims to preserve anatomy, achieve good aesthetic results without damaging the musculature, and keep it strong and active.
It is essential for the anatomy to look as natural as possible. For this reason, at Clínica Planas we use implants with innovative technology, featuring a gel consistency that closely resembles natural breast tissue—even to the touch—making the implant far less noticeable than in the past.
How to strengthen the chest at home
To strengthen the chest with most of the exercises we are going to suggest, it is not necessary to go to a gym or training center—you can do them at home with simple and effective activities.
If you have recently undergone breast surgery and the implant is placed under the muscle, even partially, it is advisable to wait a few months before doing strength training. However, arm exercises without added weight are recommended from the very first days.
First of all, to strengthen the pectoral muscles, it is important to keep in mind that they act as internal rotators and tend to pull the shoulders forward. Therefore, if we are aiming for an aesthetic result, we should compensate by strengthening the upper back. From a functional point of view, the pectoral muscles bring the arms toward the center of the body (such as bringing the palms together with the arms extended), so opening and closing movements are highly recommended.
Strength training
As mentioned above, if you have undergone breast surgery and the implant is placed under the muscle, it is advisable to wait a few months before starting strength training.
This type of training helps improve muscle tone, since excessive cardiovascular exercise can reduce muscle mass. To enhance and improve the pectoral muscles, it is recommended to do strength exercises using dumbbells, resistance bands, or machines.
Exercises with resistance bands
Resistance bands are highly recommended for strengthening the chest because they maintain isotonic tension. This means that by constantly controlling the elasticity of the band during the exercise, you achieve greater muscle engagement.
Yoga
Practicing yoga can also help strengthen the chest, as there are exercises and postures that activate the pectoral muscles, especially those performed face down.
Push-ups
If the goal is toning, push-ups are a very effective exercise. However, correct positioning and proper execution are essential, as they involve both the shoulder girdle and the shoulders.
Push-ups can be performed at different levels. If a standard push-up (with arms extended and feet on the floor) is too challenging, you can start by leaning against a wall, a table, or a chair.
Cardio exercises to strengthen the chest
One key exercise is using an elliptical machine, focusing more on the upper body. You should assist with the legs, but let the arms do most of the work—this arm movement creates pectoral muscle contraction. There are also seated bikes with arm handles, where moving the arms engages the entire front of the chest and works the pectoral muscles. And of course, we can’t forget swimming, a highly recommended sport for strengthening the chest.
Tips for maintaining a firm, strengthened chest
Healthy eating habits
Maintaining a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle is essential for proper body function. A diet rich in high-quality proteins and vegetables helps build muscle mass, which in turn makes the skin and breast tissues look firmer and more toned.
Train consistently
Regular exercise is another key factor in keeping the chest strong. It’s important to organize a weekly routine and plan workouts realistically, setting achievable goals that allow you to stay consistent over time.
Aesthetic treatments
In addition to the tips and exercises mentioned above, there are aesthetic treatments that can help achieve a firm, well-shaped chest. At Clínica Planas, we offer 100% personalized advice based on your goals.
Breast lift treatment
One of the most in-demand treatments to achieve a firm and harmonious chest is a breast lift. This surgery involves lifting the areola and nipple, reshaping and firming the breasts. The recovery is generally very comfortable, with minimal pain and immediate visible results.
