Sex therapy for couples
Sex therapy for couples consists of all the strategies used to improve the quality of sexual life.
Sex therapy gained widespread recognition after Masters and Johnson conducted a study in the 1960s, which led to the development of specific strategies to overcome some of the most common sexual dysfunctions today. The sexual response of men and women was studied in depth, revealing characteristics specific to that response: how the female and male bodies react during the phases of arousal, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.
Generally, most couples who seek sex therapy do so for the following reasons:
1. Problems with lack of desire
2. Premature ejaculation
3. Lack of orgasm.
Problems that our team of specialists will help to solve and achieve a good quality of sexual life.

Reasons to see a sexologist
Sexual difficulties
Experiencing sexual difficulties as a couple can be challenging and it's a clear signal that sex therapy could be beneficial to the partnership. These sexual difficulties can be resolved by understanding that satisfactory sexuality and a successful sexual response require the input of time, affection and love towards the partner and also one’s self. It also takes a bit of reflection and open communication regarding individual desires.
Lack of desire
When it comes to couples, one of the most common reasons for seeking sex therapy is probably a lack of sexual desire, whether due to different causes such as monotony or a poor relationship with one's partner.
From a gender perspective, it used to be more common for women to experience a lack of sexual desire. However, probably due to our lifestyle (stress, little time for intimate relationships, and poor communication), it is now common to see this in both men and women.
Lack of sexual interest
A lack of sexual interest is another valid reason to seek sex therapy. This can be caused, as in the case of lack of sexual desire, by factors such as:
1. Age
2. Hormonal changes
3. Functional, physical, or mental illnesses because they affect the couple's quality of sexual life.
For example, with regard to age, the longer a couple has been together, regardless of sexual orientation, the less frequently they have sex and the more their lack of sexual interest increases.
Paraphilias
Paraphilias are recurring fantasies that come to mind whenever we experience sexual arousal, and they are also a problem that is treated in sex therapy with the help of specialists.

What does sex therapy involve?
Sex therapy consists of providing strategies to the individual or couple to improve many of the aspects that form part of our sexual response. We cannot ignore the connection, the emotional knowledge we have of ourselves, how we communicate emotionally and physically with ourselves, but also with our partner when we talk about relationships with other people. Sex therapy consultations can be attended by one person alone or by both members of the couple, which can be very enriching. In most cases, at least one individual visit is almost always made so that the person can freely express their problem, and sessions are held every fortnight, unless more frequent visits are necessary.
It is preferable for visits to be spaced out over time so that people can devote time to their sexuality and draw conclusions in the next session: see what has worked and how it has gone, always from a relaxed, respectful, and emotional perspective. Sex therapy sessions address many levels of sexuality and sexual response. -
When is it advisable to attend such a session?
Sex therapy should be sought when there are problems related to sexuality and/or sexual response, either as a couple or individually. It is also highly recommended to undergo preventive sex therapy sessions because it can prevent future sexual difficulties and help you enjoy a better quality of sex life.

1. Contradictions with sexual orientation and identity

What are the benefits of regularly visiting a sexologist with your partner?
Knowledge is power, and when it comes to sexuality, because it used to be a taboo subject and people were embarrassed to talk about it, we do not have good sex education. Fortunately, we are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of healthy sexuality, and therefore sex therapy can offer many benefits, just like couples therapy. In many cases, certain preventive sessions could provide us with more relaxed, open and affectionate information about our sexuality and may prevent future sexual difficulties. It also, of course, has benefits for sexual quality of life because sexuality is a factor in quality of life. If you ask someone whether they are satisfied with their sex life, their answer can tell us a lot about their overall quality of life and even their physical health, because sexual response can indicate difficulties on another level. For example, if a man has a less powerful erection or a woman has difficulty achieving pleasure, it could be indicative of future physical illnesses. Therefore, assessing our sexual quality of life together with a specialist can bring us multiple benefits.
