Light Lifting: Anti-Ageing Surgery to Rejuvenate the Face

Why Does Ageing Occur?

Facial ageing occurs:

  1. Due to tissue oxidation.
  2. Due to the effects of gravity. If we lived on the Moon, we would age differently. Gravity causes tissues to descend and become deformed.
  3. There is also a loss of volume that cannot be replaced.
  4. Another key factor influencing facial ageing is the elongation of the muscles. In other words, over time, the facial fibres stretch and the face begins to appear longer.

In addition, there are wrinkles, changes in skin texture and, most importantly, loss of volume around the eyes.

Beauty Has an Explanation: Muscle Modulation

At Clínica Planas, we have developed a new procedure that represents an evolution of the facelift as we have known it until now.

We are referring to Light Lifting, a muscle modulation or periorbital modulation technique.

With this surgical procedure, we work against the effects of gravity by repositioning the tissues that have been displaced by it, thereby rejuvenating the face.

Light Lifting works against the vectors created by gravity, whose effects become more pronounced on the face as we age:

  1. By retightening the muscles
  2. By repositioning them more effectively, as in the case of the orbicularis muscle.

Light Lifting modifies muscle tension and, as a result, the outcome of the surgery continues to improve over time. In other words, a patient may look very good one week after surgery, but one month after the procedure, they will look even better.

Why?

Because the muscles function much better when they are taut. As a result, the improvement becomes increasingly noticeable over time. As the months pass, the patient will continue to look better.

In this case, we can see how this surgery has enhanced the shape of Lizy’s eyes.

Lizy’s Case

Lizy came to the consultation with a drawn appearance, possibly as a result of the chronic use of neuromodulators.

At her first consultation, Lizy presented with:

  1. An O-shaped periorbital area, whereas an aesthetically attractive periorbital area has a C shape that opens outwards.
  2. A drawn appearance around the eyes. The lower eyelid sits one millimetre below the iris. The eyelid should sit level with the iris; in other words, the white area between the eyelid and the iris should not normally be visible.
  3. Drooping cheekbones.
  4. An elongated face.
  5. A drooping lip.

It is important to highlight that if Lizy had undergone a conventional facelift, it would not have been possible to correct the eyelid in the way we did.

In Lizy’s case, when performing Light Lifting, we modified the orbicularis muscle and shortened the zygomatic muscle. The result? Lizy’s face appears shorter and the initial drawn appearance has disappeared.
