Liposculpture and liposuction are two body contouring techniques that allow us to reshape the silhouette by removing excess fat from specific areas of the body and, in some cases, using this fat to create new contours and add volume to other areas. But what are the differences between these techniques? How do you know which one is right for you? In this post, we answer these and other questions about liposculpture and liposuction. Keep reading!
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure in which excess fat is removed from specific areas of the body using specially designed devices. These consist of cannulas connected to a negative-pressure suction system. Before the fat is removed, a tumescent solution containing several ingredients, such as adrenaline, local anaesthetic and saline solution, is infiltrated into the treatment area. This helps break down the fat and allows it to be removed more effectively and with less trauma to the surrounding tissues.
This technique can be performed on different areas of the body, particularly targeting unwanted fat deposits, also known as lipodystrophy. The most common areas treated with liposuction include:
1.Flanks
2.Abdomen
3.Love handles and outer thighs
4.Inner thighs
5.Inner arms
6.Back
7.Double chin
What Is Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is essentially a form of liposuction in which, rather than discarding all of the fat that is removed, part of it is processed and used to add volume to areas where it is needed. In other words, liposculpture can be described as sculpting or reshaping the body using the patient’s own fat.
From an aesthetic perspective, we can shape the body in two ways. First, by creating contours and facets that produce shadows—different levels and reliefs that create definition. Through liposuction, these contours can be accentuated by removing fat from one or more specific areas where it is excessive. This creates what we call a negative vector.
With liposculpture, in addition to removing excess fat, we process the extracted fat and inject it into areas where we want to create greater definition or volume, thereby also creating a positive vector. For example, we can create a more muscular appearance in areas such as the biceps and shoulders, or increase volume in areas such as the breasts or buttocks.
Liposuction vs. Liposculpture: Key Differences
In summary, the main difference between liposuction and liposculpture lies in what we do with the fat that has been removed.
With liposuction, the aim is to reduce unwanted fat deposits. With liposculpture, the extracted fat is also used to reshape the silhouette and create more balanced body contours. One of the main advantages of using fat is that, because it is an autologous material taken from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of rejection by the body.
Which Is Better, Liposuction or Liposculpture? Factors to Consider
It is not possible to say that one technique is universally better than the other. The choice between them depends on the surgeon’s assessment and, of course, the patient’s goals. Some people may only require liposuction, while others may benefit from a combination of liposuction and liposculpture.
That said, we can look at which techniques are currently most requested according to international aesthetic standards. One of the options worth highlighting is HD Vaser Liposuction with body sculpting and the assistance of other technologies, such as PAL (Power-Assisted Liposuction). This technology uses vibrating cannulas, which allow the cannula to move more rapidly and can facilitate a more precise extraction of fat.
How Much Does It Cost?
At Clínica Planas, we assess each case on an entirely individual basis, so the cost of cosmetic surgery depends on each patient’s specific circumstances. For this reason, we offer a free initial consultation with a surgeon.
This allows us to assess each case in detail, carry out a comprehensive diagnosis and provide the patient with all the information they need, together with a personalised treatment plan and tailored quotation.
What Is Your Goal?
When deciding between liposuction and liposculpture, the first thing you should consider is your goal. If your main concern is simply excess fat in a specific area, such as the abdomen or outer thighs, liposuction may be sufficient.
However, if you want not only to remove excess fat but also to redefine your silhouette and create greater harmony between different areas and volumes of the body, liposculpture may be the ideal option.
Which Type of Liposuction Removes More Fat?
As we have seen throughout this article, the difference between liposculpture and liposuction lies in whether or not the excess fat is reused to add volume to specific areas of the body, thereby reshaping the silhouette. In terms of the amount of fat that can be removed, there is no inherent difference between the two techniques.
There are, however, differences when it comes to the use of newer technologies, such as Vaser or MicroAire, which can help achieve more precise and effective results.
Which Type of Liposuction Is Less Painful?
When discussing pain levels, it is useful to distinguish between traditional liposuction, which uses a suction device and cannulas, and liposuction assisted by energy-based devices. One of the best-known options currently available at Clínica Planas is HD Vaser Liposuction.
Vaser Liposuction is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction technique in which the cannulas emit ultrasound energy. This helps emulsify the fat, reducing bleeding and enhancing skin retraction by increasing the temperature in the subdermal tissue.
Which Type of Liposuction Is Less Invasive?
Current technological advances are making liposuction procedures increasingly less invasive and traumatic. Once again, HD Vaser Liposuction is worth highlighting. By emulsifying the fat, it can reduce bleeding and allow the fat to be removed with less blood content.
For this reason, it can be considered a less invasive technique, although it also requires a longer surgical procedure.
