Frontoplasty

Introduction

Forehead reduction surgery, also known as frontoplasty, is a surgical technique that involves removing a certain part of the scalp in order to lower the hairline and thus decrease the size of the forehead.

There may be several reasons for undergoing this surgery: when there is a too high hairline, when the shape of the forehead is aesthetically inadequate due to asymmetry or to any unsightly prominence on the forehead.

This surgery allows harmonizing the facial features and improving the proportions of the upper third of the face.

We can improve the curvature of the forehead by softening it and removing the prominences that make the forehead more feminine or masculine. The hairline is advanced up to the appropriate point so as to have a harmonized forehead with the suitable size.

This surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and requires a 24-hour admission, being painless and safe for the patient.

Pre operative

It is necessary to carry out a facial CT scanner to study the bone structure of the forehead.
It is necessary to have a complete preoperative procedure performed by the anaesthesia team.

Post operative

Since it is a surgery performed on the bone structure it is convenient to wear a bandage the first 24 hours, as well as a drainage that is removed the night after.

The use of hair products to dye hair should be avoided for at least 3 weeks.

The scar, hidden in the hairline, should be cared according to the specialist recommendations.
