Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty is a surgical technique that consists of correcting an excess of skin and bags of fat in the eyelid area, which makes the face look older and tired. This treatment can be done at any age, although as the tissue relaxes these problems usually become more acute. This is a quick operation, with an uneventful post-operative recovery and long-lasting results. The technique can be applied alone or with other cosmetic surgical procedures aimed at removing facial wrinkles or loose skin.

Procedure

Upper eyelid surgery consists of removing excess skin and restoring the normal tightness of the muscle. If necessary, bags of fat can also be removed.

For lower eyelids, the operation can be carried out in one of two ways.

One of these is external and comprises making a small incision under the eyelashes in order to remove the bags of fat, closing up again with very small stitches. It also tightens the skin and the orbicularis muscles round the eyes. The other method is internal, with a small incision inside the eyelid and no external wound, extracting the fat through the internal mucous membrane. No stitches are required as this tissue heals very well by itself. The operation usually lasts from half an hour to an hour.
