In most cases, when we decide to undergo breast augmentation, the goal is to improve the shape and size of the breasts. However, one of the most common concerns is the presence of scars after the procedure. If you are thinking about increasing volume, we explain the main types of scars in breast augmentation and give you some tips on how to care for them properly. M<\/strong>ain Types of Scars in Breast Augmentation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are three main access routes in breast augmentation, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.<\/p>\n

Periareolar<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the periareolar approach, the incision is made along the lower edge of the areola, allowing the implant to be inserted through it.
The advantage of this type of scar is that the color difference between the areola and the surrounding skin helps camouflage the scar, making it less noticeable.<\/p>\n

However, one of the drawbacks in larger breast augmentations is the possibility of temporary loss of sensitivity in the area due to skin stretching and tension on the nerve endings. Over time, this sensitivity usually returns.<\/p>\n

Inframammary<\/strong><\/p>\n

The inframammary scar is located beneath the breast, in the fold where the underwire of the bra sits, and it is the most commonly used method for inserting implants in breast augmentation procedures.<\/p>\n

Despite some patients’ initial concerns, increasing breast size with implants creates natural shadows under the breast that minimize the visibility of the scar, making it largely unnoticeable.<\/p>\n

The axillary scar, as its name suggests, is located in the armpit and remains hidden when the arm is down. It is one of the best options for breast augmentation; however, it is not suitable for all patients, as it depends on the type of breast.<\/p>\n

T<\/strong>ips for Caring for Your Scars After Breast Surgery<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The quality of scar healing largely depends on the surgeon’s technique. Precision in bringing the wound edges together is essential. In addition, immediately after surgery, the UrgoTouch laser treatment can be applied in the operating room, which has been shown to improve scar quality in a single session. There are also other treatments that contribute to optimal healing, such as silicone patches, polyurethane dressings, and carboxytherapy.<\/p>\n

Protect scars from the sun
<\/strong>During the first year and a half to two years, it is crucial to protect scars from sun exposure. Silicone strips are recommended to help accelerate scar maturation. These strips should be replaced periodically.<\/p>\n

Maintain good hydration
<\/strong>Proper hydration is essential. You can also use an anti-stretch mark cream to help prevent stretch marks from forming on the breasts.<\/p>\n

Avoid physical exercise
<\/strong>It is advisable to avoid physical exercise during the first month after breast augmentation surgery. After that, you can gradually resume physical activity.<\/p>\n
