Light that repairs and regenerates
Biostimulation is a very new treatment using diodes that emit visible narrow bands of different coloured lights that stimulate the dermal and epidermal cells. This treatment is ideal for use before summer as it reduces the inflammatory effects of harmful ultraviolet rays on the skin and also inhibits the formation of free radicals. It can be used very successfully in combination with other treatments such as anti-aging and laser peels as its anti-inflammatory effects help to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Its action on the blood vessels makes biostimulation very useful in the treatment of rosacea and redness.
The stimulation of the cells´ energy functions results in an increase in the production of collagen and elastin.
Biostimulation´s inhibitory action on melanin synthesis is effective in treating pigmentation disorders such as melasma.
The red and blue light is also useful in the treatment of acne. The blue light acts as a bactericide against proponiobacterium acnes while the anti-inflammatory properties of the red light help to reduce redness in inflammatory acne.
The patient is reclined on the treatment bed and wears glasses to protect the eyes. Treatment lasts for about 15-20 minutes depending on the type of skin. A pulsed red light is used for the rejuvenation of the face and neck, while a continuous red light is used for photodynamic therapy for actinic keratosis. Blue light is used in combination with other therapies for the treatment of acne and pustular rosacea and a combination of red and blue light is used to treat acne and rosacea when inflammation is present.
